New home buyers beware!!! Make sure you know what kind of "hardwood" floor you are getting.

We purchased a new home in Blackstock Mill (Cumming, GA), built by McCar Homes, and have been very unhappy with the quality of the floors. Our contract says "hardwood" floors but have actually received pre-engineered floors that chip, dent, peel, etc... It has to be the cheapest product I have ever seen. We have been told by other flooring companies that this SHAW product has actually been discontinued.

We have expressed our concern and lack of satisfaction with the builder from day 1. We have been very professional with our complaints going through all the proper steps. However, they will not take responsibility for this "cardboard" like product that they have used. Therefore, we write this blog in hopes that others will not make the same mistake and that someone may advise us what else we can do?

We too, have a problem with our McCar flooring. We built our home with McCar in Blackstock Mill in Cumming. We were offered a "hardwood floor" option at the design center and paid thousands of dollars to upgrade to hardwood flooring on our entire main level. After movin in, we noticed that the floors were denting/gauging, peeling, splitting and bubbling. After having much older real "hardwood" floors in a past home, we knew this was not normal for a harwood floor. When we asked about this at our walk through inspections and sent several letters, we were told that the floors could not be sanded and fixed because they are "preengineered". This was news to us! Our contact states "hardwood floors". The new homes currently being built in the same neighborhood have real 1/4 inch hardwood floors. The problematic material was made known to McCar by other homeowners before ours were installed, yet the 1/4 inch option was not offered to us (even for a higher price)at all. McCar refuses to take responsibility for upholding the contract.

I have to agree that Mccar uses cheapest materiial they can get.
What's more upsetting me is that they do not respond to my warranty request until my the warranty expires.
